According to the Office of Consumer Affairs, the South Australian government body that deals with issues like Warranty (actually, Statuatory Conditions):

Breach of a Statutory Warranty
The trader is required to remedy any problems that arise under statutory warranty. The appropriate remedy will depend on the particular circumstances and may include:

• repair or replacement of the goods
• resupply of the goods or services
• payment for these things to be done, or
• compensation for any loss caused by the breach

Breach of a Statutory Condition
If the goods that you have bought are so defective that they breach one of the statutory conditions, (ie they do not work, have broken down or developed a serious fault that cannot be fixed within a reasonable period of time) then you are entitled to cancel the contract and get a refund.

Hence, they are not obligated to replace the item, if it can be repaired in a reasonable period of time.

These rights and conditions may differ from place to place.

Isn't it easier to return it to the place of purchase and exchange it for a new one? Being 3 months old it should be well within it's warranty.
