Hmm. 12 Mb of data per user in a 5 min period - our bandwidth is only 2Mbps - not due to us, that's all we are allowed to have. More, through the mandated education department service provision is ludicrously expensive.

Part of the issue is that nothing is cached. All of the data is sent over https, which means each user has to download a new copy of each image. Which adds up very quickly.

I was really excited about it, but our involvement with the trial has ended. This was largely due to the large data transfer requirements, which we were not prepared to meet. A local version of the system would alleviate these problems, but create upstream issues when accessed from elsewhere.

These were the issues that were determined by the students. The problems I had as a content developer were more. Like lack of immediate feedback, even over a fast connection. And limitation to MS products, like IE to create or edit content.

I would love to find a better solution, but I'm not actively seeking one any more. For reasons that will become clear soon.

It seems as though all your "disadvantages" were about internet and it's cost. Does your school use dialup as those things are generally not an issue to anyone anymore.

Now that you've had more time to reflect, what is your long term feeling about the product, and did you find a better alternative anywhere?
