Hey Matt

It's the same everywhere mate, and despite what apple say on their online store... it would have taken the same amount of time to get it through next byte and the apple online store.

As Mchappy said apple were experiencing MASSIVE delays since the release of the new Imac's, for some reason they arnt as reliable as the old generation MBP's and alot of the delay was them attpemting to rectify these issues before they shipped. Channel (Reseallers communication through apple) have been rather unhelpful with not quoting ETA's to us and not fullfilling outstanding orders of 1 - 2 months.

So dont get too angry at nextbyte. It's a shame they didnt have more of a communication line with you but, working in the industry myself I can understand there situation, it is a very hard job being the communication between the customer and apple and only being able to give bad news. I hope that it all works out for you in terms of your MBP and wireless trouble. :D

Actually, right after I got mine, I might not have minded too much if it had been one of the old ones. The machine crashing hard every time I attempted to use WPA networking on battery was pretty crusty.

And having had the machine four weeks earlier may have made up for the fact it was slightly lower spec, too.

Having said that, once the machine arrived, and the WPA issue was fixed, I'm fairly happy. Now if only I could get it to connect to the network without me having to click that I don't care about the lack of a root certificate every single time.

RE the Macbook Pro.
Apple are experienceing huge delays with the new LED screens in Australia, the US market is taking most of them. On that Apple now has in the US a 17% share of the laptop market.

Everybody is in the same boat regrading supply. Yes it would of been upgraded to a new Machine - Would you want an old one??? I doubt it. On line you would wait the same amount of time. The new Macbook Pros are cheaper than the old model, so one would assume the machine you are waiting for will be that way as well. Was it a cto unit ordered?

My hassle wasn't the time, it was the lack of communication, and the ineptitude of the staff. When I first tried to order it, they got the order wrong in two different ways.

When my order was put through, I was never notified that it had been upgraded, no courtesy call as to an ETA, or anything like that.

Dude, why write off Next Byte. They clearly have NO control over when apple decides to ship your machine. Its obvious that your computer was going to be upgraded to one of the santa rosa machines therefore you shoud be prepared to wait a little longer. Especially when there is no way you could've got your computer any faster through the online store, in fact, its usually slower than getting it through a reseller like nextbyte.
Anyway hope it all worked out for ya in the end.
rant over.

I'm leaving the previous comment because it totally cracks me up.

Not only is it a fully irrelevant Spam comment, but there are no links, so I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to do...

News story about Camp LeJune in North Carolina about Marines getting cancer from "toxic water". They scapegoat a local dry cleaner.
It came from the camp, and I suspect some of those stationed there did the actual dumping. We've seen this type of behavior in Concord, causing an inordinantly high mental retardation rate within select neighborhoods.
They were careful to cover this dumping with the dry cleaner issue because they want them continuing with their current behavior. A major scandal like this among the red state's military meatheads would shake their confidence to the core and initiate permanent changes.

And, after speaking to someone from Next Byte, it appears that the reason my order has been so long in the waiting is because it is a new Santa Rosa MBP.

If only they'd told me that two weeks ago...
