VMWare Fusion, bridged AirPort and DHCP
Posted in the wee hours, filed under Airport Extreme.Things are strange.
If I use my VMWare Fusion machine at work, then it gets it’s own IP address from the DHCP server, as expected. I use Bridged mode over the AirPort connection.
If I try the same at home, I don’t get an IP.
I’ll try the other base station. I don’t know if it is the router or the DHCP server, but something isn’t working…
Last week I had a similar issue and it kicked my ass for an hour or so until it hit me…
The day before, as a temporary security measure, I had instructed my DHCP server to assign no more than 1 dynamic address. My Mac got that, of course, and my XP VM was left high and dry.
Probably not your issue since it seems pretty specific to something I was doing, but I thought I’d mention it since it may not be anyone’s first thought (it sure as hell wasn’t mine).

Nah, my issue was most definitely with the DHCP server not serving addresses properly. I’ve since changed to an alternate router/DHCP server (in this case the Airport Extreme) which hands off IP addresses fine.
And, as a further test, my Windows VM gets an address when I sit here in Illy, sorry UneCaffeBar using free Internode internet (to download the 10.4.10 Combo Updater).
