The downside to working in a school is that your fellow teachers almost act the same age and maturity level as their target audience.

Don't believe me? Go work in a primary school for a bit ;)

There was lots of stuff I did like about being a teacher, but plenty I really didn't. I was fairly sick of trying to teach stuff to kids who really weren't that engaged, and I prefer doing stuff myself.

I really don't like marking work, hence the reason I generally left this until the last minute, and I don't much like writing school reports, either. Mostly they are a waste of time, as far as I am concerned.

Finally, there is a heap of bullshit that is associated with being a teacher. Whether it is doing the management stuff, like trying to chase up kids when they are absent (at some stage they really need to take responsibility for their own actions!), or the stupid amount of bullshit meetings that we had each week. It really got me down. Like the last staff meeting we had, where we spent over half the meeting debating when we were going to have the staff farewells (which didn't bother me since I didn't want a farewell - I cannot stand my coordinator, and he was likely to be the person giving me the farewell), and then the decision that was made wasn't actually followed by admin anyway. I'm not necessarily saying it was the right decision, but it was just about 30 minutes of my life I'm never getting back.

You're not one of my ex-students, are you?
