Connections Theme for Blogsome
Posted terribly early in the morning, filed under Blogsome.Note: the best place to get the Template, as it looks now is: My Template Page. This is automatically updated.
To set up Blogsome to use Connections as a theme requires some serious editing of the Connections theme files. Luckily for all of you, I’ve done this.
What you do need to do first is download the actual theme from wherever you can find it. Try Vanilla Mist. Then, upload all of the images (making sure you change the top.jpg if you want, to whatever image you want there) using the Upload tab of your dashboard.
Unfortunately, you cannot FTP to blogsome’s server, so you will need to upload each file seperately.
Note: if you change the top image, make sure it is the same size. Leave the bar at the top there - that’s where the nav menu needs to go.
I have added a couple of images: post_comment.png and search.png that also need to be uploaded.
You then need to put all of the contents of the following files in the correct place using the Manage/Files tab of the dashboard: Main Page, Style Sheet, Posts, Comments. Depending on your browser, you may need to save these files - it might try to render them, and therefore make them rather useless. (I’m talking IE here!)
Note: The most recent version is always available at Connections Template.
That should just about do it. I would suggest you do some edits to make things a bit your own (maybe remove my AdSense code) but that’s up to you. If you cannot fix any errors, drop me a line or leave a comment here.
Good Luck/Happy Editing
Update: I’ve changed where the files are stored, and I’ve put the latest versions up there, so update away!
how to delete an uploaded image on blogsome?
2 months, 3 weeks after the fact.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to do this: if you have an image you don’t want anyone to be able to see, upload another image with the same name using the dashboard, and make sure you choose not to rename it.
I think that this might be in the forums, although not how to solve it.

hello there thanks for the connections made my life much easier
Im wanted to ask how did you seperate blogroll from the other links thereby showing it in another part of your front page
nice blog by the way
3 months, 1 week after the fact.
The trick is to add the
categorytag to the smarty tag for theget_linkscode.{get_links category='2' before='' after='' between='' show_images='0' orderby='rand' show_description='0' show_rating='0' limit='-1' show_updated='-1'}Then, you need to make sure your Links are categorized. (And this code needs to appear twice, once with
category='1'and once withcategory='2'.Good luck.

You’ll need to download the package from the fist link I gave: http://www.vanillamist.com/blog.
There should be a folder inside the archive called
img/, upload all of these files using the Blogsome Dash. Then, right-click on each of the four links listed above (Main Page, Style Sheet, Post & Comments), and save each of them as a text file.
Finally, copy the contents of each of these files and paste them in the relevant file editing window (Manage -> Files, then choose the right one from the list near the bottom.)
I’ve put my tutorial up: Part 1, and Part 2.

Hello. I’m using this theme. Thanks for your work. However, I have some problems in the comments. They are not showing correctly. I did not change a thing in the comments.txt file you provided. So I wonder where the problem is. Could you help me?

There is now a link in this post the the best location for the template files: and it will appear exactly as it does on my blog now.

Hello again. Thanks for helping, but now there’s still a problem. There is no Post button in comments, so no one can give me comments. I think it’s a problem in the codes.

i was wondering if cool little touches on your blog, like the gravators and live preview, is included in your connections download?

Not as such, but the actual template files can always be found at my Template page.

Hey all — was hoping that someone could clue me in on a total n00b CSS issue:
I’m trying to customize the Random Image Theme for Wordpress, and I’m running into a small — but *incredibly annoying* — problem.
I’m trying to make the background of the content area white. The background of navigation column that runs down the right side is not plain white (FFFFFF). Rather Photoshop’s color picker claims that it’s F9F9F9 — but this isn’t anywhere in the style.css file. There is a .alt that has a background set at F8F8F8, but when I change that to FFFFFF, it doesn’t help.
Where is that shading coming from?
many thanks…

It’s possible the value is coming from a named colour, but I don’t know if any are this colour.

Hmm, I’m guessing it isn’t there anymore - I don’t use blogsome any longer.

Hi,
I’m also new to Wordpress.org and I’m have a terrible time with some functions. Two things: First, When I insert the More tag into some text, save it, check it on the home page, and then click on the ‘More’ link, it just doesn’t go anywhere.
Two, the same problem occurs with Pages. I write up a Page, save it, and it doesn’t allow me to go to the Page from the Home page. I’m so confused. I didn’t have this problem with Wordpress.com only .org
And I love your Connections them. Can you advise?

Hmm. Don’t know that I’ll be much help. I haven’t touched anything WordPress related in a couple of years.
Oh, and Connections isn’t mine. A lovely lady called Patricia designed it. I did port it to Blogsome some years ago, but now I have a vanilla WP install.
