I’d forgotten this was how I’d removed the Operator Logo last time: I registered with SMSpup.com, and Australian Web-based SMS service. If you register you get a couple of points, and you only need one to get an operator logo.
Then make a custom operator logo, with no background, and make it so it is just whitespace (a single space works well). Then choose your provider, and then click Preview. You may need to re-choose the provider before clicking Send.
All done. When you receive the Operator Logo, it will default to being active, masking the YES OPTUS that was there, or whatever your provider displays.
If you ever want it back: Menu âžž Settings âžž Main Display âžž Operator logo âžž Off
Hi,
I just found another Free SMS website for Auzzie’s… it’s at http://australia.sms-txt.co.uk - Pretty neat!
Ciao,

Thanks Peter, I had a bit of a look. Some issues:
Clearly, this is an attempt at someone to make a serious profit out of clueless people. Since it costs them to send SMS’s, I’m going to keep sending them to myself, and not actually use the 19-number, or Paypal. I wonder if I can put them out of business on my own. I’m rather persistent…
Oh, and there shouldn’t be an apostrophe in Aussies, in this context, as it’s plural. I’m a bit anal like that.

Furthermore, there appears to only be around 1 text message sent every 2 minutes. They might not be making much money on this to begin with.

Hi Matthew, I do like your blog and just wanted to point out another site where you will be able to send free SMS. I am working at it at the moment and it is under construction. The date I am planning to go live is early June.
The idea is to tackle the high SMS costs in Australia and offer 5 free SMS initially and cheap SMS for life. It will be about 4 Dollar for 250 SMS. Just straight forward. No hidden charges or costs.
I just wonder if you would like to write a review about it once it is live. I can arrange to give you a beta tester account in the next month. We would be looking to get some feedback from you and your blogger community. The URL is: http://www.textual.tv
Let me know what you think
Sebastian
