Compiler Construction, or Game Development?
Posted in the evening, filed under Asides , Programming. As a class, we have the choice of what the focus of one of my topics this semester is going to be.
I’m voting for Compiler Construction. Even though we’ll be doing it in Java (ugh!), it is something I was disappointed to find wasn’t otherwise offered.
If you need convincing, read Stevey’s Blog Rants: Rich Programmer Food.
Now, if only I can convince the rest of the class!
You’ll never win this one, but Compiler Construction is infinitely more useful for a programming career…
The number of people I’ve worked with who didn’t even understand things like the stack and heap, or even binary arithmetic, is astounding. When you’re working on improving the performance of something, these are the skills you need to have.
Dero.

I’m kinda hoping I will win. I’m fairly squeaky-in-the-way-the-squeaky-wheel-gets-the-grease.
And, perhaps as a bonus it seems that this class is mostly only people who got pretty good grades in the previous programming topics. Not that that really means much, as it was sooooo fucking easy.
