FreeMacWare

I’ve just found FreeMacWare, and love the look and feel of the site. Haven’t found anything I’ve downloaded yet, though.

Salary Sacrifice

I’ve had a loan laptop on more than one occasion recently, and I quite liked it. I recieved an email with an advert for salary sacrifice the other day, and did a bit of research. I’d prefer a MacBook, but the group I got the email from weren’t any cheaper than the Apple Education prices. Anyway, buying a $1700 laptop over 2 years would end up costing me only $15 per week, dropping down to $10 per week over 4 years. I’m due in a couple of months for a payrise of about this much, so I may do this.

Optical Illusion

From a trackback from Paul’s Time Sink, I came across a Spanish Castle optical illusion. You must see/do this, it’s truly excellent.

Online Office

I’ve been fiddling with Writely lately, and think it’s very cool. Online, shareable word processing. Even handles (relatively well) both revision control and concurrent editing. Not quite as well as, say, SubEthaEdit does live multi-person editing. Today, I also came across this: Google Spreadsheets.

MS Access has no LIST data type

Well, the title sums it up. There doesn’t seem to be a way to store a list of items in a Microsoft Access database. For instance, I have an item that may belong on several categories, but I can’t just have a LIST datatype, and have a list stored in here. Instead, I’ll have to have yet another table that has relationships, which further complicates the database. And makes creating a form for entering data more difficult.

Access Database Gripes

I have an application where I need to have categories, and each category can have a parent category. However, I can’t do this in Access using one table, as tables cannot have entries that refer to items in themselves. So, I’ll need to have a Category table, and also a Category Parents table, which has the relationships in it. Bah.

More RAM makes WoW happy.

I bought an extra Gig of Ram today - I thought I already had a gigabyte in my PC, but I only had 512 Mb. Upping the Ram makes World of Warcraft run smoothly, even in Ironforge, a busy city where I get crappy FPS. I’ve also been able to increase some of the detail settings without too noticeable dip in performance. But by far the best outcome is that I can switch between WoW and Firefox without having to wait ten or twenty seconds for it to catch up…

WoW 1.11 Update

Finally, the 1.11 World of Warcraft update is being applied. Which means all of those things I mentioned a fortnight ago are finally happening.

Werthers Original

I saw an ad for Werthers Original, available in traditional Hard and new Chewy. Wouldn’t the chewy one not be original…?

Level 30

Well, my character in World of Warcraft has made it to Level 30. Last night, after a massive 9 hour session, I finally got there. It’s funny, but I think I’m spending more time in Azeroth than at my job…
