My pirate name is:
Calico James Flint

Often indecisive, you can’t even choose a favorite color. You’re apt to follow wherever the wind blows you, just like Calico Jack Rackham, your namesake. Like the rock flint, you’re hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you’re easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

I laughed out loud when I read The politics of chess, over on Rum and Monkey.
And then in rides the cavalry, to take the glory and claim the victory as their own. It’s typical, if you ask me… the horsey set always likes to think of itself as punching well above its social weight. When they’re not prancing about the board of life, you’ll find the Knights playing polo and drinking champagne.
You may have noticed I like the Chaser. Whilst watching episode 18, there was a segment bagging The Da Vinci Code, as The Ken Done Code. You’ll need to be Australian to understand it. You won’t need to be Australian to get this bit though:
While mindlessly surfing tonight (I was actually following referrer links, and seeing where I got to), I came across a great post, over at Breathe in Now: Bus Tickets in Bed. Basically, the idea is to take the nice little messages that appear on the back of our bus tickets:
This is the front at the top, and the bottom underneath. My personal favourite:
Do not choose to be wrong for the sake of being different in bed.
If you get this, you are probably nearly as nerdy as me. If you don’t, well, I’m not going to explain it.
Whoops, forgot to add where this came from: xkcd.
Every Australian Child knows the story about Ned Kelly. The famous outlaw was captured while wearing body armour made from old farm equipment, and is an iconic figure in Australian history. I came across a picture today, that was a replica of the banners proclaiming his execution. I’ll quote the last part of the text:
His last words before he was executed were, “I guess it has come to this.” And shortly after “Such is life”
Apparently, he was still able to talk after being executed…
Boing Boing: China Olympic stadium design entry resembles giant snatch?
This is kind of amusing, but even more so when I think back to a furore that erupted in my early days of University, shortly after the State Bank of South Australia fiasco that resulted in the bank being rebranded as BankSA. Along with the name change came a new logo:
Some wags from one of the student newspapers - it may have been on dit, the Adelaide Uni newspaper, but I seem to recall it being entropy, the UniSA paper - decided that it looked decidedly snatch-like, and called it CuntSA. Needless to say, it didn’t go down too well.
Just spent four full days in Melbourne. It was cold. Went over there to catch up with some old school friends of mine, whose birthdays parties we’d missed in the past 12 or so months. Was drunk pretty much non-stop for three days. Used to be able to do that without blinking. Have to blink now. Bought World of Warcraft after having a bit of a play over there. So, you may never hear from me again, apparently… Oh, and this one, from xkcd.com is for Wayne:
I just came across the webcomic xkcd, and laughed all of the way back to the start of the series. This one in particular is fantastic.
But I actually think he’s pretty talented, too, as an artist:
